Hallelujah! School is coming to a close for the summer and finals are just around the corner. Throughout this journey at CSULB, I have found that not only my mind but my art has been stretched and pushed to certain areas that I never knew existed. Finally overcoming that fear of being "too out there" since I'm more of a down to earth kinda girl is actually quite riveting to be honest. I can make non-representational sculptures and not feel like a weirdo. Haha.
I am, however, disappointed on how I handled myself this semester. My emotions have definitely gotten the better of me in more that one way and I can physically (unfortunately) show for it. I am, however, striving towards wrangling these wild thoughts and stresses into something healthier not only physically but mentally this summer. I'm hoping to get the juices flowing for sure.
Well, I'll keep you all updated on how the finals of devastation turn out to be within this week. Not to mention this nine page term paper I am STILL writing that is due in about nine hours.
EYE OF THE TIGER.
peace.

Cruel and Unusual Punishment
I think the CSUs punishment for being an art major is forcing their students to take a 3D Design course in which the said professor forces the students to create a larger than human sized non-representational object out of paper one lines a house undergoing construction.
Did I mention that this paper is 324 square cubic feet and weights about 15 pounds?
Yeah...
So, today was our only in class time to put together this monstrosity of a black heavy duty crepe paper in some form of a vision one gets off of an acid trip. I chose to go the "I thought it would be easy" route and attempt to hang my creation instead of building some sort of makeshift foundation.
Easy, right?
WRONG.
Not only did I have to create some form of weaving from strips of paper to hold the blasted thing together. I made TWO large pieces that had to counter balance themselves so one wouldn't be heavier over the other. Gah. So after 40 sticks of hot glue, 324 square feet of paper, and all loss of feeling in the tips of my fingers, the project was finally over at 11 P.M. What a way to spend the first of the month.
Oh, here is what the finished product looked like.

| Inside the "flowers" are tubes that range in size, from small in the middle to huge on the exterior. |
![]() |
| All the other collection of crap back there are other students' projects. |

| Imma eat joo. |
![]() |
| I was so afraid that it was going to rip when I was gluing the bottom "flower" since I had to do it whilst the first one was hanging out up on the rafters. |
![]() |
| I tried modeling it after a wilting flower. |
![]() |
| I never knew how smooth new flesh is once the first twelve layers have been burned off. |
Anyway, successful day in 3D and I don't have to go back to that class tomorrow to finish it. Score. Now sleep just to wake up in about six hours for class. It's an ENDLESS CYCLE.

HNNNNNNNNNNNNG
Okay, I think I just found my artist crush right now. Not for simply her amazing illustration skills but for the fact that she is totally down to earth and so freaking funny. Here is just a prime example of why I wish I had this girl as my friend:

I know I posted a link to her website in the last blog but dude, you NEED to check out her blog on the website. I could totally read her stuff for hours. She reminds me a lot of K. Beaton from Hark A Vagrant!

Okay, now back to my 3D non-representational life size object crap I have to do for a glorified 3D Design course.

Day in the Life of an Artist
So, today, I had the best comment from a teacher made about art and how to pretty much make your artwork speak volumes about the passion one has as an artist and even as an individual in the art realm.
"Design is how you're feeling, if you aren't into it then it is obvious." Andrew Kutchera
Of course you might be saying "Um duh, thank you captain obv, isn't that the point?"
But it is so true! If you aren't into it mentally, emotionally, physically, your deficiencies clearly present themselves in your work. So have fun with your artwork, at least make it appear that you actually care about what you create and express to the world.
Here are some examples that my Typography professor (the actual individual who pointed out the key element of art) provided our class with to present this idea of creation and the beauty which individuals can utilize and express in the form of graphic design and type.
